    Join us as we take a deep dive into trial preparation and voir dire with our all-star team of expert civil trial lawyers and judges. Whether you’re new to the courtroom or an experienced litigator looking to stay at the top of their game, this program delivers practical, real-world training to elevate your practice.

    Learn practical and strategic trial tips you can use in your very next case from Tom D'Amore and Brian Williams, and from the bench, Judge Tim Gerking, and Judge Judith Matarazzo. Earn an ethics credit over lunch (provided) with David Elkanich and Olivia Courogen as they discuss the ethics of online juror snooping. After lunch, we will dive into voir dire with David Sugerman and Drake Hood. They will discuss voir dire theory and strategy, and then do a demonstration a LIVE voir dire panel. 

    Following the program, we invite you to continue the conversation with fellow attendees and speakers at a cocktail reception (included). You don't want to miss this chance to learn from some of the best in Oregon. Program details and registration information are below. We hope you will join us on October 10th.

    "Best in the West" is a voir dire competition between the law schools in Washington and Oregon. This year's competition will be hosted at Seattle University. 

    We need the following volunteers:

    • ABOTA Coaches - we need 1 ABOTA member to team up with each Oregon law school to help coach the team. Time commitments will be determined by the ABOTA member and the law school faculty.

    • Judges - we need 4 judges to attend the competition and evaluate the teams using the provided rubrik.

    • General Staffing - we need 4-5 people to help the day of the event, including check-in, jury management, timer, and other jobs that help make the day run smoothly.
    Please reach out to Nicole at nicole@or-abota.org if you are interested in helping. Travel to Seattle is required for the roles listed above.
